Lance Mitchell Lance R. Mitchell - MBOC Project Director

Lance Mitchell joined the MBOC as Project Director in May of 2006. His duties will be to assist the Executive Director in completion of the MBOC’s goals, primarily focusing on brokering assistance to the MBEs as well as communication needs for the Center. Mitchell has a background in business and property management, as well as being a published writer.

Mitchell joins the center after serving as General Manager for Smith Cleaners, a dry cleaning chain of stores operated out of Bessemer, AL. He has also served as General Manager of two Holiday Inn franchise properties as well as a Jameson Inn property. Mitchell brings management experience and knowledge from both the public and private sectors.

Mr. Mitchell is a strong proponent of minority inclusion in today’s business structure. “I believe that diversity and inclusion in the procurement and supply process is a necessity. The only way to empower those who need it most is through education and equal access to financial opportunity. I hope to further the cause of minority inclusion in the business landscape of Alabama. I’m excited about the task ahead.”

Lance attended the University of Alabama where he studied Communications as well as Technical and Creative Writing. In his time away from work, he is an avid music listener and historian, enjoying blues and jazz among many other styles. He also enjoys reading and sports, particularly college and pro football.
